Greetings everyone, well I haven’t updated my blog in a while; I’ve been quite busy with personal issues that have appeared and that needed my attention. Some of them will be ongoing, but that’s how life is, it can bite you in the ass every so often and force you to make decisions that you would sometimes rather not do, but hopefully when you close one door, you have others that are opened to you.

This month’s IGDA meeting saw us discussing the various issues from productivity and globalization to personal advancement. One of the key points that came up in these discussions is the creative nature of our industry and the constant changes that are done during all the development cycle of a game. The two main questions that were asked are: Are we too creative, and, When do we stop being creative?

An Apple representative once described the difference between Ambient and Immersive technologies as one requiring your full attention while the other can be present in the background. Both have similar goals though, to affect you in some way or else it would not be considered entertainment. The most commonly used examples of these technologies are music versus film or video games, although one could argue that television can become ambient (when having a conversation at the same time for example) and music can become immersive.

With rising costs in developing video games, project management practices are becoming more and more important. Games are becoming more complex and demanding especially with MMORPGs forcing development teams to expand in order to release in a reasonable time frame. But as teams grow, so do the many issues surrounding organizing, planning, communication, performance and so forth. To counter these issues, overall structure needs to adapt to this new reality as to not suffer from the same failings of rigid organizational practices.

Life’s journey is fraught with perils, but it is the lessons we learned and the experience itself that makes it worth it.

Annonshe has been quite a learning experience for me filled with ups and downs, challenges and lessons that needed to be learned along the way. A labor of love, it was a dream that ended up bigger than originally imagined and perhaps a bit before its time as well. It showed me my various strengths, weaknesses and permitted me to grow as a person. Currently, the company is inactive, dormant until I decide what to do with it, either revive it with the same or a different vocation or simply putting it to rest. This article is a look back on its evolution and some of the lessons learned.
